The Escape of Light by Fred Venturini: The book started off strangely with him retelling a story of how he was burned and goes on to how he goes to high school and deals with his burns.
Golden Arm by Carl Deuker: Lazarus "Laz" Weathers lives in Jet City, a trailer park in Seattle, Washington. His dad is gone, and he now lives with his half-brother and mom. He is an avid fan of baseball, and an amazing pitcher. And when summer hits, him and Mr. Leskov, a man who runs the community center nearby, get a team together to play during the summer. But when North Central High, Laz's school, ends their baseball program, Laz is crushed. But thanks to his skill, opportunities open up that just might bring him to the top. The book is great. The storyline fits together leaving no gaps that I caught, with foreshadowing all throughout. It has great characters, and it is different from a lot of sports related books I read, though I haven't read many. Overall, it's an amazing book, and I would recommend it to others.
